I'm pretty sure just about every student gets stressful at least one day of the last two weeks of classes. There are final tests to take, papers to write and presentations to prepare for. It's a lot to handle, especially when winter break is just around the corner and we just want to get over this last hump of the semester. In order for this time to be less stressful, I have a few tips that help me, and could possibly help you, too!
1. Start study/preparing as early as you can. It's never too early to start working well, there are some cases where it may not be possible, but still! If you know you have a presentation that requires a powerpoint, lay out the slides and label them before you complete gathering all the information. I do this and it keeps me on track and focused on the content. If you don't have a test final until the end of the week, at least get your note cards or other study tool planned out so by the time you really need to start studying, your tools are ready for you.
2. If you don't need the internet on, don't have it plugged in or turn your WiFi off! Because of social media like Facebook and Pinterest, there are too many distractions available that will definitely not help you study. If you are just writing a paper about a book you read in class and don't need to do research, unplug the internet. It will make you less likely to go on useless sights. If you have to, get your password changed so you cannot log in. We're paying to be in school, so blaming Facebook may not be a valid excuse for wasting your tuition money.
3. Give yourself a reward after each long day of studying. The ultimate award is of course a good grade in the class. Leave yourself a treat for the end of the day so while you study, you work harder to be able to have that treat. It can be a cookie, a trip to Circle K for a polar pop or just your comfy bed and an episode of your favorite show.
4. Have breaks! I like to have pace myself when having a day filled with assignments. After reaching a an ending of a long point in your studying, reading or writing, go play some ping pong, take a walk or get lunch/dinner. It's not smart to be sitting or looking at a computer screen all day to begin with.
5. Get some rest! Sleep is important, no matter what your day is like. If you try to cram everything in one day and don't sleep, chances are you might even sleep through your final, so what was the point of all that studying?! If you need a snack to help you sleep I always like having a banana or oatmeal before bed. These two options are healthy for you too!
I hope some of these tips can help you with your stressful last weeks of school. In the end, just think of the rewards you will be having once the semester is over: Holiday food, free time, New Year's parties, and a lot more fun activities.
Good luck!
