Thanksgiving on the east side.

December 1, 2015

I'm currently in bed trying to recover from some bug I caught from my little vacation or once I returned. No one wants to know the details of what I've been going through the past two days. Just... icky. Sad face.

Anywho, my Thanksgiving was quite fantastic. I went to visit some of my mom's side of the family that lives in the east side of PA. I haven't seen them since high school! It was a breath of fresh air.

I tried cod and chips for the first time. I enjoyed the fluffly-style chips more than the fish. The fish is probably what caused this weird stomach flu thing, but anyways... Thanksgiving dinner was traditional with turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, pie, and some others. I also had what was probably the best steak I have ever had in my life. It was at a Mexican restaurant in the city. I must go back in the summer!

I also went to Philadelphia for the first time the day following Thanksgiving. My cousin was so supportive and encouraging. She wanted me to do whatever I wanted on Friday. The weather couldn't have been better for a day in November. We really had a good time. It was even better to get to know her now as we're adults. We're actually quite alike, and I didn't expect it.

Even though this was a holiday vacation, it was chill and overall relaxing. My grandma was really, really happy to see me. She waited for me every morning and wanted to make me breakfast. It was a little overwhelming, but I understand how she was feeling. We watched Marley and Me. Yes, we had never seen it before!

Two things I learned from this trip: Family isn't perfect but is worth keeping close and if you want something enough, take the risks, money or whatever is needed to get it.

My cousin and I have many things in common, but one thing I wish we did have in common is that she has persistence and the will to get what she wants. Whether it's a job or to buy something she wants, she will find a way to get it. She doesn't settle. I don't know if it's a confidence thing or self happiness drive, but I look to her for that. I know that's what I need in my life.

The long drive and paying for the turnpike was worth it. I'm happy I got to know my family a little better and hopefully will continue to keep them in my life.
